Unlike Katawa Shoujo, however, which falls in line with bishoujo game conventions, Doki Doki Literature Club!В has an ace up its sleeve that ensures its success with both the weeaboo contingent and video game journalists looking for something-well, clever: itвЂ™s metafictional. 2 only a month after its release: the kind of game that will perpetually be described inaccurately as a вЂdating simвЂ™ because most of its players are more interested in its unusual origins or unique gimmick than in its formal qualities as a visual novel. Developed by the American Dan Salvato and released in English, Doki Doki Literature Club! is quickly becoming Katawa Shoujo pt. It is also a game destined to be misunderstood because of its isolated position in the Western market. Despite a lot of heart and stellar writing, it is let down by its cleverness. It is a very good visual novel whose shortcomings are frustrating because of its obvious potential to be really great.
